Alan Carter’s story is one of rags to riches, and not far off back again! He cut his biking teeth roaring around his native Yorkshire streets on a Yamaha 350LC before racing LCs successfully. And then ending up as a Grand Prix racer and winning the French GP – much to everyone’s surprise.
But Carter never could repeat that success, and as the big-money offers dried up he was the man who never quite lived up to his potential. And a family life filled with personal tragedy left him a much-misunderstood man. So when Bike Magazine wanted to get him back on a 350LC, complete with trainers and paddock jacket like he used to wear, to go for a ride with one of their journos, it was a great blast from the past.
